Well we finally arrived in New Zealand in the same way we left the UK. Pissing rain and freezing cold. After flying an internal down to Christchurch we grab a lift to the Highway Motel close to the airport. Proper truckers place. Loads of character and a warm toasty bed and hot showers, thank the lord.
After a good brekka we head around a few of the rental companies for a campervan. What a dull old business. The first place we spent 10 minutes with a moronic shop assistant who made the character in Little Britain seem positively helpful "computa sez noooooo" over priced, undersized, bored already we are outta here ...... We ended up in Tui Campers talking to Ewan. He knew his stuff and understood the words "discount please" and threw in loads of extras, perfect, Max and Paddy are on the road !! :) We head off to the local supermarket to fill her up. Having not done proper food shopping in a supermarket since October we were like kids stacking the trolley. We are both smiling away. Never had a camper before its wicked.
First place we aim for is Akoroa about 2 hours out of Chrischurch. Beautiful peninsula that felt like a cross between the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales. Piccies below in no particular order. Its Autumn / Winter and the colours are fantastic. Blue skies (what else!) fresh air and the walking is A1.
Waking up and looking out the window. Parked in a deserted bay right on the beach.
Small town of Akoroa on the side of lake Akoroa, arrived at from Akoroa Road next to the Akoroa Hotel owned by Mr Akoroa and his son Ak ... getting the picture :)
