Demilitarised Zone, Tunnels and Piddling Pigs!

Took a quick stop on route to Hanoi to vist the tunnel complex in the DMZ (demilitarised zone) at Dong Ha. There's a lot written about the DMZ and the unbelievable amout of death and destruction caused by the US policy of blanket bombing this area. They just randomly flattened huge areas with levels of ordnance that just blow your mind, but in the end it got them nowhere. The tunnels are a real testament to the grit and determination of the North Vietnamese and their military strategists. Miles of tunnels containing everything, hospitals,wells, living quarters. Just crawling around them for an hour was enough to make us feel hot and claustraphobic; what on earth it must have been like for the people that called it home for all those years under such a daily barrage I cannot for the life of me imagine. Thank our lucky stars !!

The mood was lightened somewhat on the way back as we followed a chap on his moped with 3 pigs strapped to the back. Diane urging me forward for that pulitzer winning shot, I get within range and the pigs start pissing! "Oh No" I scream from the front I've been given the golden shower by a bloody pig, I swerve to one side and accelerate past as the pigs continue their ablutions, i,m cussing good and proper now with Diane laughing her head off:) Happy days in Vietnam with Diane and Jonny !!
