Siam Reap

Well I spent my 45th Birthday in Siem Reap and what a top time we had. Got up early doors for the Sunrise over Angkor and beautiful it was too. Sat in the early morning mist with a cup of coffee watching the orange globe of the sun slowly rise above the temple. We headed for a stokingly good breakfast and more brew before heading off on the pushbikes. The temples cover a huge area and I have to be honest I like to see the main event, the rest of it got a cursory glance as we shot by. The star of the show for me was the ruins that had been taken over by the most amazing tree roots. Pictures can never really do it justice but to be on your own in amongst it all, just me and Diane with insects chirping and the birds singing, it was a real Indiana Jones moment. We had one moment when my dodgy pushbike tyre exploded but a local guide whipped out his repair kit and 3 bucks later we were on the road again. Hot and sweaty we headed back to the establo for a quick shower and then off to Swensons, the best Ice Cream parlour in SE Asia, nice!! In the evening, hit the town for a few birthday bevvies and good Steak and chips, care of Ralph, Diane's Dad. So cheers for that Ralph - a great day all round.
